Better than I expected!

So let's be real for a minute: you probably saw the Shadowcast's $50 price tag and - like me - really doubted that a thin little device like this would actually work for a capture card.

And then I bought one. And plugged it into an Xbox One. And it worked.

Surprisingly low latency. Pretty decent visuals considering it's just 1080p. And, if you're using it with a Switch, it'll still detect all the motion control stuff your controller might have, even on a laptop screen.

The best part? The Genki Arcade app - which is by no means perfect - actually carries the sound over without needing to do any sort of computer wizardry like you might have to do with OBS. You can even share the screen through programs like Discord, and share experiences on consoles you might not have had an easy time doing it with.

I tested it with my Switch (of course), an Xbox One, an NES Classic and an SNES Classic. I even plugged it into a simple composite-to-HDMI converter and managed to get a Gamecube working on it.

My only concerns now are that the cord it came with is very short, which can lead to some issues when getting everything hooked in properly. The device also gets very, very warm when in proper use - I've wondered whether or not to put a tiny fan next to it if I use it for an extended period of time.

The Genki Arcade app also lacks recording software as far as I can tell. The buttons are there, so it appears there were plans to put it in, but the functionality isn't present anymore. It…

Great capture card for the uninitiated

This capture card is awesome! It’s allowed me to travel with consoles and record with ease. It’s by no means perfect but neither is Elgato. It definitely does the job and pretty darn well. I especially like that it utilizes usb c, which makes it a no brainer for using on my MacBook Pro (and it doesn’t stress out my hardware the way my Elgato capture card does).

Great product, been using it with everything

Considering it's just an HDMI output to USB c, it makes it compatible with an endless amount of devices, and is absolutely great in tandem with a screen recording software to capture gameplay on a computer. Or even just displaying the game.

The only way I could think they could improve this product is to further expand the range of displays compatible. For example, most smartphones have USBC ports nowadays. Maybe they could put that app on Android? After all, most people have a smartphone but not everybody has a computer, and it would also make the product much more versatile. Certainly would be lower latency than cloud gaming, in theory.
