Description

Covert Dock 2 takes the components of a NS dock and USB-C HDMI Display Adapter and ‘covertly’ hides them into a portable charger.

The charger acts like a normal charger that fast charges your favorite portable devices but when you need to it can also output your device’s screen to a TV or monitor. This means you don’t have to buy additional adapters and dongles or carry that big game console dock with you when you want to share the fun on that next trip. It’s so versatile that we even find it useful in a pinch when we’re presenting PowerPoints in our Genki meeting when no one can find that damn ‘laptop dongle.’

Version 2 of the Covert Dock has been upgraded to better support not just the NS but also the newer handheld gaming consoles like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally that benefit from more power and higher 4K resolution. It even works with the latest USB-C iPhone if you want to share your photos or videos on a TV - works wonders in the hotel room or at the in-laws.

How to Use

To charge your handheld console: simply unfold the prongs out of the Covert Dock 2 and plug it into a power outlet. If needed, slide on the appropriate global adapter as appropriate. Then plug the included USB-C 3.2 cable from the USB-C port to your handheld console.
To connect your handheld console to a big screen: connect an HDMI cable (sold separately) from the HDMI port of the Covert Dock 2 to your television or monitor’s HDMI input port. While most devices will not need you to power the Covert Dock 2 to use, the NS specifically needs the power to go into docking mode - which can be confirmed when the console screen turns off and is broadcasted to the big screen. Also note that Joy-Con’s need to be detached from the console to work in docked mode.
To connect a USB accessory to the your handheld console: simply plug it into the middle USB port - your USB-C device should detect it automatically and be charged with up to 5W.

Will this work with my device?

The Covert Dock 2 is one of the most versatile docks supporting not only the NS Console and Steam Deck’s unique docking requirements, but also the wider USB-C DisplayPort (DP Alt Mode) standard compatible with just about every dockable USB-C device including most handheld gaming consoles (ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, MSI Claw, AyaNeo, Anbernic), Apple devices (Macbook, iPad, iPhone), PC laptops, and many Android tablets and phones.

Can I use this on any screen?

Any screen with HDMI input will work, which generally includes any TV, projector, or monitor made within the last decade. Devices that do not have HDMI such as an iPad or Laptop monitor will additionally need a ShadowCast device to convert that HDMI signal to USB-C.

Does this work with ShadowCast?

Yes, you can use all versions of ShadowCast with the Covert Dock 2 to connect your laptop or tablet instead of a TV. Simply plug in the HDMI side of ShadowCast into the Covert Dock 2 HDMI port.

Why aren’t my Joy-Cons working?

Unfortunately the NS does not allow attached NS Controller to be used while docked and need to be detached and used wirelessly.

Why doesn’t this work with the NS dock?

In essence you can’t dock a dock.

Fantastic Device

Works super well. Really is plug and play. Just make sure you get a long enough HDMI cable since it’ll have to go from the outlet to your tv/monitor.

I mainly use it for my ROG Ally Z1E. It’s 45W power delivery is great if you use a custom TDP like I do. Obviously can’t get Turbo 30W mode on the Ally, but I set my Ally to 25W TDP and it works great. I still gain a charge while playing, so it’s pretty powerful.

Tested it out on my Switch 1 as well and of course it works there too. Switch doesn’t need near as much power as the Ally.

So far so good

I bought this as a secondary dock for my house so I can play my switch docked upstairs or downstairs and not have to move the big dock around. I’ve only used it a handful of times so far but it was very straightforward to set up and seems to work great. Cool that it also works to connect other devices to the tv
