We know some of you are ready to step up your creator credentials and make the leap to 4K content creation - or maybe you wanted to start recording PS5 content instead of the Nintendo Switch. Whatever your reason, thats why we made the ShadowCast 2 Pro - we could only contain so much awesomeness in the tiny ShadowCast 2, but with the Pro we were able to really stretch our capabilities and create something that can be used as a professional creator’s tool.

We’re also way less restrictive and more friendly than those ‘other capture cards’ that lock you down with custom drivers. ShadowCast 2 Pro is compatible with essentially every app and platform utilizing UVC (USB Video Class) compatibility so it’s not just powerful but super easy to setup. You can play games in popular streaming apps like OBS if you want to share your gameplay to your Twitch and YouTube followers, or you can record your gameplay in apps like Quicktime.

How to Use

Connect ShadowCast 2 Pro to HDMI Source: Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI IN port on the ShadowCast 2 Pro. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI output of your video source (such as a game console or camera).
Connect to TV or Monitor (Optional): If you want to use the passthrough feature, connect an additional HDMI cable from the ShadowCast 2 Pro's HDMI Passthrough port to an HDMI input on your TV or monitor. This will allow you to experience 4K 60Hz with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and HDR (High Dynamic Range) on your display while capturing your content.
Connect ShadowCast 2 Pro to Displaying Device: Use the USB-C 3.2 cable to connect the USB-C port on the ShadowCast 2 Pro to a USB-C 3.2 or USB-A 3.2 port on your Mac, PC, or tablet.
Important: You need a USB-C 3.2 port to capture 4K60.
Launch Capturing Software: Open the Genki Arcade, Genki Studio, or any other video capturing software that you prefer on your Mac, PC, or tablet. If you have not yet installed any capturing software, download and install the Genki Arcade or Genki Studio from the official Genki website or the software that you have chosen.
Configure Software Settings: In the capturing software, make sure to select ShadowCast 2 Pro as your video capture device. Adjust the capture settings according to your needs, up to 4K 60Hz and HDR 1080p 60Hz, depending on what your video source and capturing device support.
Start Capturing or Streaming: Once everything is set up and configured, you can begin to capture or stream your video content. Use the controls in your capturing software to start, stop, and manage your recordings or live streams. Recommend capturing 4k 60 at 110000kbps or 1080p 60 at 90000kbps for a smooth recording using OBS.

I don’t see the video feed on my app?

The most common solution is to ensure you’re using the included USB-C 3.2 cable and that you’re connecting it to a computer that has a USB-C 3.0+ port. Next things to check is that your console is on of course. If ShadowCast 2 Pro isn’t selectable as a video/camera device this likely means there is something wrong with the USB-C connection or port. If you can select ShadowCast 2 Pro in your app but you see a Genki screen with a QR code its likely the connection to the console. If you see a black screen the culprit is likely your console’s video settings, see the next question.

All I see is a black video feed, what gives?

HDCP is likely the culprit and is a form of content protection. If you’re using a PlayStation 4 or 5 first connect your console to a TV and navigate to Settings -> System -> HDMI section of the PlayStation interface, and turn off Enable HDCP. Other devices generally have HDCP off until specific video apps are launched. We’ve heard theres an unofficial firmware update floating around that may workaround this but we shouldn’t really encourage you to do that...

Will this work with my device?

ShadowCast 2 Pro is meant to be as universally compatible as possible. As long as your console isn’t outputting more than a 4K60 video source, ShadowCast 2 Pro should be able to take that video input. In terms of the computer, ShadowCast 2 works with all major computing platforms including Windows, Linux, Mac, Android, and iPadOS - however for optimal performance you’ll want to make sure you’re using a USB-C 3.0+ port on your computer and that your computer speed can comfortably process and record video smoothly at whatever you’ve set as your capture resolution.

Excellent

Plays much nicer with Genki Arcade than the first gen SC. Overall an excellent value compared to Elgato; Elgato having a sale on their low end model and its $100 for 1080p! My $40 OG ShadowCast can do that!

I mostly use it to just stream my consoles on discord or for me to play on my pc without switching inputs. Works great!

Doesn’t work on my iMac (OS10.15)

I connected my Switch with iMac by using ShadowCast 2, but it doesn’t show my Switch on my iMac; but when I connect with my MacBook, it works! Could you please help me with this situation? Many thanks!!!

ShadowCast 2 & Pro No Video 🎥 with Sound 🎶 (Vice versa)
If you are using either the ShadowCast, ShadowCast 2, ShadowCast 2 Pro and experiencing no video but with sound present or the other way around, on Mac or Windows, Please try the following method:

Connect your ShadowCast series product to the HDMI source and computer.
Open OBS.
Adjust the video and audio output to ShadowCast, ShadowCast 2 or ShadowCast 2 Pro.
If there is no Video presence, select the video output and delete it from the List in OBS.
Click the ➕ sign and add the video output again, and select the ShadowCast product.
The video driver should be recalibrated to show the video and audio.

What I've Been Waiting For

Finally, a simple plug-and-play device that allows me to run my PS5 on macOS! The resolution at 4K 60fps is brilliant, with no lag, and it feels like it's running on the native monitor. I can't wait for the next model that hopefully supports 4K 120fps.
